Adventures in Cooking

So, although I have not stuck to my New Year's resolution of cooking a new recipe every week. I haven't cooked a new recipe every week, but have been successful in cooking new things more often. My recent successes include my family's "Bossanova Beans" (thanks Kathy for the recipe). These beans were a hit at our belated Father's Day BBQ. My father-in-law said they were the best beans hes tasted- woo hoo, success!! A little background on these beans- growing up, just about every 4th of July was spent at my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Lyle's house in Oakhurst- near Bass Lake. These 4th's were some of the best I can remember, and we always played washer toss, went for hikes, and had a pit BBQ that wasn't complete without a side of Bossanova Beans. For my bridal shower, everyone submitted a recipe to complete a book of hand-me-down recipes to call my own. Kathy (my mom's cousin) gave me the bean recipe, and I couldn't wait for the perfect time to make them!! They turned out great and can't wait to make them again.

I've also made some pretty successful meals recently for my wonderful hubby- shrimp scampi with pasta noodles (spaghetti squash for Sean), and another recipe I have been waiting to make- French Onion Soup. French onion soup is one of my absolute favorites, and I was so excited to get the oven-proof bowls that I registered for. I decided, Monday night was the perfect night to try it out- Although it's mid-July, the past week has been a bit gloomy and misty, so soup seemed to be the perfect dish. I must say, it turned out delish! And it made Sean happy- he even boasted that it was possibly one of the best things I've made to date! We even had enough for leftovers that were equally satisfying, and I will definitely be making this soup again. I only have 4 bowls though, so until I get more, I can't make it for a big dinner party, but can make it if we have a double date at our house :)

It's been so fun experimenting with all our new kitchen-wares and gadgets that we've gotten for our wedding. I was never much of a cook before- not that I was bad at it, but I just didn't know how much I'd like it until I got into it. It's great making a meal and sharing meal-time with those you love :) Can't wait to perfect my cooking ablities and add more favorite recipes to the mix. Sean gladly accepts his role as my food tester, and so far I've been successful at not making something that's completely in-edible. Until the next dish!!
